Bring power, strength and self-expression into your jewels by embracing gemstones that celebrate the color of the year.
As more and more people seek out jewelry as a form of everyday celebration and as a way to express their personality, infusion of color in jewelry through enameling and gemstones has become the norm. International color authority Pantone’s announcement of Viva Magenta as the color of 2023 has just given gemstones in hues of pink, purple and red, a fresh burst of life.
“This year’s Color of The Year is powerful and empowering. It is an animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement,” states Pantone
The brand’s Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman goes on to explain that the color was inspired by nature, primarily the red of cochineal, one of the most precious natural dyes as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.
Viva Magenta balances warm and cool tones, straddling the physical and virtual in a multi-dimensional world. “It is assertive, but not aggressive, a carmine red that does not boldly dominate but instead takes a “fist in a velvet glove” approach. Exuding dynamism, Pantone Viva Magenta is a transformative red tone capable of driving design to create a more positive future,” states the brand on its website.
Pantone’s color of the year influences everything from fashion and interior design to everyday products like mobile phone covers. While some make it a point to go with the color trends, others unintentionally gravitate towards it as the repetitive use of the color influences decisions at a subconscious level.
So how does this translate for the jewelry industry? Designers have plenty of gemstones to play around with while incorporating the color in their designs this year – rubies, tourmalines, morganites, garnets, spinels and rubellite all embrace the intense hues of Viva Magenta.
Here are some of our designs that represent the hue in all its glory.
The earrings exude an air of modernity. Inspired by classic silhouettes, the ear studs are centered on 0.10 carat pink rubies enveloped by 1.13 carats of sparkling round diamonds set in 14-karat rose gold. The richness and warmth of the ruby beautifully complements the tranquil radiance of diamonds.
The ruby and diamond pendant strung from a 14-karat gold chain encapsulates the power of Viva Magenta that inspired life’s celebrations. The combination of red and pink in the gemstone balances the power of red with a softer touch of romance.
The trio of graduating rubies in the diamond danglers change the narrative with bright color pops. The addition of rubies is a reflection of a woman’s self-empowerment and courage. Make a statement with these earrings that are in tune with the latest color in fashion, a symbol of creative expression surrounded by the invincibility and resilience of diamonds.
The open ring festooned with rubies of varying sizes, totaling 0.70 carats, offsets the boldness of crimson red with an element of playfulness. The ring set in 14-karat gold has the power to dress up the simplest outfit.
The gorgeous pinkish-purple amethyst crowns the white gold ring carpeted with round diamonds. The scalloped ring is perfect for those who want something unconventional and are ready to take on new challenges.
The rubellite ring ensconces the fervor of Viva Magenta with beauty and grace. Three round diamonds are artfully set into three stars that exemplify the allure of the cosmic world. The dual ring offers the illusion of stackable rings while giving the ease of wearing just one.
